The Year Of The Tiger Calls For Saving Them From Extinction

Saving Tigers From Extinction
Okay. This hub comes straight from my heart.
The Year of the Tiger is coming - Feb. 14, 2010 rolls in the Chinese New Year, and this year the Tiger is the ruling animal. This majestic creature symbolizes strength, courage, bravery, boldness, graciousness, and also power which can be dangerous if misused.
Unfortunately this is not good news for tigers.
With the Year of the Tiger there is an even higher demand for tiger parts on the black market and in Asia, as people have it in their heads that killing an animal so you can have part of it as a trophy somehow brings luck or longevity or some other reward for inhumane selfishness.
Sorry, I guess I'm a little passionate about this subject.
The sad truth is that there are more tigers living in captivity in Florida than there are in the wild in India.
And that just makes me want to cry.
Poaching is one of the biggest threats, as is habitat loss. Tigers and other big cats are predators that play incredibly important roles. Nature needs these beautiful animals to keep the balance of life.
Though honestly I think there shouldn't have to be a reason to preserve animals such as these - they should just be granted their birthright to life on the planet. Really, living in the wild is difficult enough without having to worry about poachers.
We are truly in danger of losing wild tigers to extinction. To me, this is not acceptable.
Here's what you can do:
- Go to Big Cat Rescue and find out what you can do to help.
- Educate others about the very real threat to tigers, and encourage them to do just one thing to take action. This can be through Big Cat Rescue or World Wildlife Fund, to name just two.
- Share this hub to raise awareness for the tigers.

I will go to that site, Big Cat Rescue, Thanks, Maita
Katrina I love the big cats ! You can count on my support and donation to " Big Cat Rescue " ! Thanks for the pics and for giving me a venue to help !
My sons see a tiger on television and says, 'that's Diva's relative.' lol. Diva is our family hairball. It saddens me also to hear of the decline in population #'s of these truly magnificent animals. Going to vote. Great article! :)
Kartina this hub is beautifully done. Definietly from the heart. And I am a huge sucker for tigers myself having two tiger who are my spirit guides (whether you believe that or not :-) ) Tigers are soooo beautiful!
Beautiful photos, and I agree completely that the slaughter of these majestic creatures is a tragedy.
On the plus side, congrats on your HubNuggets nomination! I think I know who I'll be voting for...

I loved the pictures of the tigers. I wrote a similar hub regarding polar bears. Thanks for bringing this to our attention. Aloha!
Congrats on being nominated for the HubNugget Wannabes! Good luck to ya! This is a great hub, I love tigers, they are just so beautiful and majestic. Would love to have one for a pet, of that would probably be the extinction of me. :) Thanks for sharing!
Tigers are such beautiful creatures.I applaud you for trying to get the word out.It would be sad to see these animals gone for good.
I adore tigers. Thank you for posting something so informative on such an important topic. Seems people of the world are always obsessed with saving themselves, not enough of us look at what we can do to save animals, who are unable to save themselves.
The Tiger is my Chinese sign. I love them they are beauitful. Thanks for the great hub and wonderful pictures!
Save the Tiger! A recent issue of "Smithsonsian" magazine showed there are only 4,000 tigers left in the wild. As long as poached wildlife remains big business the tigers don't have a chance. Alas, I'm afraid human greed and stupidity will kill the tiger. Of course, there's always hope! Good hub. Later!
Hi Katrina,
Congratulations, you made it to the top 5 so your featured hub will be seen by many people.
Very happy for you

Hey Katrina, I was waiting for your next hub, I just came to drop by to know how are you now, Maita
I was born in 1962 so this is my year so to speak. These are extraordinary creatures. It is unfortunate that human ignorance to the ways of nature will more than likely prove fatal to them and us as well. A recently read a book called "Ishmael" by Daniel Quinn which describes the human war on the natural world perfectly.
Hi Katrina, How are you again? I was so glad I joined the contest cooking at HP and one of my hub was again chosen as a potential winner for weekly, I would like to ask if you havent voted yet, please consider it -- http://hubpages.com/topics/food/1491
